Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery or keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique used to diagnose and treat various gynecological conditions. It involves making small incisions through which a thin, lighted tube with a camera (laparoscope) is inserted to provide a clear view of internal organs. Compared to traditional open surgery, laparoscopic procedures offer faster recovery, less pain, minimal scarring, and reduced risk of complications.

Causes of Gynecological Conditions Requiring Laparoscopic Surgery

  • Hormonal Imbalances – Leading to PCOS, fibroids, and endometriosis.
  • Infections – Chronic pelvic infections causing adhesions or blockages.
  • Genetic Factors – Some conditions like fibroids or endometriosis may run in families.
  • Recurrent Miscarriages or Infertility – Structural abnormalities in the uterus or fallopian tubes.
  • Previous Surgeries – Scar tissue formation from prior abdominal or pelvic surgeries.
  • Abnormal Growths or Tumors – Non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous growths, such as ovarian tumors or uterine polyps, that may require surgical removal.

Symptoms Indicating the Need for Laparoscopic Surgery

  • Chronic Pelvic Pain – Persistent lower abdominal pain that doesn’t resolve with medication.
  • Severe Menstrual Cramps – Painful periods that interfere with daily activities.
  • Heavy or Irregular Menstrual Bleeding – Excessive bleeding, spotting between cycles, or prolonged periods.
  • Pain During Intercourse – Could indicate endometriosis, fibroids, or infections.
  • Unexplained Infertility – Difficulty conceiving due to possible structural issues.
  • Frequent Bloating and Pressure in the Lower Abdomen – May indicate ovarian cysts or fibroids.
